Pumpkin Delivery 2026

Each year the students at Putnam Central School decorate and distribute pumpkins to

seniors in the community. This exercise enforces community bonding and

understanding among our students. Plus, the students really enjoy the process and

attempt to be as creative as possible. We have had some very interesting pumpkins over the years for sure!

It is also well received by our seniors in the Putnam community and it is evident in the

faces of each person as the students arrive at their door with pumpkin in hand.

Coordination for the activity is a shared responsibility including teachers and staff

supervision during decorating and occasional bus travel. Maintenance does a

fantastic job of set-up and tear-down to ensure that classes can continue without

interruption on decorating days. Secretarial and transportation employees masterfully

work the delivery into the school schedule. Ms. Jenny Smith serves as our local census

guru as she provides names and addresses for eligible seniors and rides the bus to

direct drivers to previously unknown addresses. It is truly a team effort and one that

both the students and staff at Putnam take great pride in. The Pumpkin delivery is a

great example of the uniqueness of being a student at a small rural school like Putnam

CSD.
